This is the day the Church celebrates and honors the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the principal feasts of our Blessed Mother. This feast is about the departure of Our Lady from her earthly life and the assumption of her body into heaven. In 1950, Pope Pius XII issued Munificentissimus Deus, an Apostolic Constitution which proclaimed the Assumption as a Marian Dogma, stating, “we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a revealed dogma that the Immaculate Mother of God ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”
This feast of Our Blessed Mother’s Assumption is also remembered in the Holy Rosary as the Fourth Glorious Mystery. Pope Pius XII taught us that God from all eternity regards Our Lady with such most favorable affection that He desires to grant her every prayer. Let us run to Our Blessed Mother that she may intercede for us and our prayers to Her Son, Our Lord.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. Amen.
